How Can Regional Partnerships Unlock Economic Opportunity for All?

How Can Regional Partnerships Unlock Economic Opportunity for All?

Hosted with East African Breweries and UN Women

This Insights Paper explores how regional partnerships in East Africa can expand access to decent jobs and resilient livelihoods. Despite stark challenges such as high youth unemployment, persistent gender pay gaps, and exclusion of persons with disabilities, initiatives like Learning for Life, Futuremakers, and Generation Equality are showing what works. The discussion emphasised the role of targeted skills programmes, inclusive finance, and childcare provision in transforming opportunities. Yet equity is not automatic. Cultural norms, discriminatory practices, and weak data continue to pose barriers. The paper highlights the need for sustained action, strong partnerships, and accountability to achieve inclusive growth across the region.
