iDE: Reaching 20 Million More People

Since 1983 iDE has leveraged the power of business to help rural entrepreneurs work their way out of poverty. From our first social enterprise in Somalia to our more recent businesses from Vietnam to Latin America, we have helped more than 23 million people gain access to a technology or service. We strive for tangible, direct income and livelihood increases for people in the world’s toughest markets.

How will we reach 20 Million More? Our new global strategy has been designed to leverage our success in building markets and supporting businesses. With more than 1,000 staff worldwide and our largest funding base in history, we have rallied our global team to focus on our most effective solutions:

  • Human-centered design of technology, including new products like the Hydrologic Water Filter, EZ Latrine, and agricultural technologies;
  • Market innovations such as Commercial Pockets and Farm Business Advisors;
  • Integrating microfinance into products and services through loan provision and partnerships with financial service providers;
  • Climate-smart agriculture, such as drip irrigation kits for smallholder farmers, solar powered water pumps, and resilience and adaptation strategies;
  • Leveraging partnerships with some of the world’s largest companies in irrigation; and
  • Rapid, accessible data to provide accurate feedback on our effectiveness.

We are looking for partners and organizations to join our efforts. We are also currently searching for one of our most significant global leaders, our Managing Director for iDE UK.

iDE UK’s Managing Director will lead efforts from the UK to reach another 20 million people with iDE products or services. As Managing Director you will contribute your ideas and perspective to this ambitious goal, shaping the future direction of the organisation. This is a critical leadership role in one of the world’s most successful organisations working to reduce poverty in the developing world.

Potential partners and candidates from Business Fights Poverty members are invited to email iDE CEO Tim Prewitt by 13 February 2016.
