Pearson helping UAE to develop their school leaders
30 principals, vice principals and teachers from the UAE arrive in the UK tomorrow as part of a unique development programme run by Pearson. The School Leadership Programme, which is sponsored by the UAE Ministry of Education, hopes to use global training opportunities to improve the quality of teaching skills to international levels, as well as drive standards of leadership and managerial competencies across their national education system.
The scheme, which was awarded to Pearson following an invited tender competition, began in January and aims to develop the skills of 700 school leaders over five years. During this study trip delegates will be visiting outstanding schools to observe teachers in their classrooms, and attending bespoke workshops designed to develop their mentor, evaluation and leadership skills. They will also have the opportunity to meet with edtech experts from across the UK to learn how technology is supporting school leaders there.
Christine Ozden, Pearson’s President for the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, said that the visit reflected a wider, mutually beneficial relationship between the UK and the UAE when it comes to education.
“The residential programme offered through the SLP is another way Britain and the UAE can learn from one another with the end goal of producing teaching and learning environments that allow students in each country to achieve their learning potential. This programme aims at raising the education standards in line with the development process being witnessed by UAE schools, thanks to the initiatives and plans being implemented by the MoE”.
